Wildlife Viewing Areas of San Bernardino Forest

There are several areas of the national forest specifically designated for wildlife viewing along State Highway 38 in Mountain Home Village, Forest Falls, Angelus Oaks, Barton Flats, Seven Oaks, San Gorgonio Wilderness and the Sand to Snow National Monument.

Wildlife in the forest includes large animals like black bears, California mule deer, big horn sheep, and mountain lions, as well as smaller creatures like coyote, raccoon, bobcat, many species of squirrels, skunk, chipmunks, grey fox, and beavers.

Sand to Snow National Monument

The Sand to Snow National Monument is an area stretching from the Sonoran desert floor up to the San Gorgonio Wilderness, containing a striking variation in types of environment.

The area is also known for containing several critical wildlife corridors, a crazy level of plant life diversity, and the remains of ancient civilizations.

Heaps Peak Arboretum

A beautiful nature walk located off of A18, Rim of the World Scenic Byway, just east of Skyforest, Heaps Park Arboretum is a great way to stretch your legs outdoors.

The arboretum offers a variety of plants, trees, birds, and small animals to view along the way.

Wildhaven Ranch

If you’re looking for a great educational tour, check out Wildhaven Ranch off of Pineridge Dr. in nearby Cedar Glen.

The ranch has lessons on some of the wildlife they protect, but make sure to make a reservation! The ranch is open year-round, weather-permitting.

Willow Creek Jeep Trail

If you’re looking to enjoy nature with an off-road adventure, check out Willow Creek Jeep trail, an off-roading track for all skill-levels.

You’ll get off the beaten path and take your vehicle into the wilderness with you.
