Lately, you may have noticed changes in your husband’s behavior that you can’t explain. He might be secretive about his whereabouts and who he’s hanging around. You suspect drug abuse, but you’re not sure what to look out for. What are some signs of drug use you should be aware of?
Signs of Drug Use
As his wife, you’ll probably be the first person to notice any drug abuse signs because you live with your husband and see him every day. Be on the lookout for common signs of drug use, such as:
- Neglecting his appearance
- Losing interest in sex
- Seeming moody
- Withdrawing from you
- Sleeping more or much less
- Missing work and family obligations?
You might also notice money missing from around the home or joint bank accounts. Instead of spending time doing things he once enjoyed, he may be withdrawn and spend time with people you don’t know.
Helping Your Husband
You love your spouse and you want him to get help so that he’s once again the loving, caring person you married. Unfortunately, if you’re engaging in codependent or enabling behaviors, it will be difficult for both of you to get the help you need.
Don’t make excuses for his behaviors and actions. Instead, learn as much as you can about drug abuse and addiction, while also believing that you’re strong enough to support him through recovery. It’s important that you let him know you’re there for him, but you’ll no longer enable his addiction.
He may be willing to get help right away or he may continue to use. Counseling can help one or both of you while he makes the decision to get clean and heal his body, mind, and marriage.
