Luxury Drug Addiction Treatment Centers: Everything You Need To Know

Have you ever heard of luxury treatment centers? Well, picture this. You’re sitting on balcony overlooking a beach. One direction is a stretch of water as far as the eye can see, the other is a mountain full of green leaves and tropical plants. You feel at peace. You feel like you are staying at a resort where you get to just escape for a while. But guess what? You’re actually in rehab.

Luxury Rehab centers use a vacation type of approach to their treatments and sometimes it’s enough to make you feel like you are living on a resort. Some of the amenities you can find in luxury rehab involve:

It is basically like living in a 5 STAR hotel while receiving treatment on top of a vacation. Now, those were just a few examples of what is included, but the list can continue. Don’t just be blinded by the fancy views and amenities, because what’s really going to make it worth it is if you actually embrace the recovery.

Each luxury rehab center comes at its own cost, but there are specific things to look for that will really make it worthwhile.

Why Choose a Luxury Rehab Facility?

The first question you might ask about luxury rehab is why should you go? Besides all of the resort feel, what makes luxury rehab so special? Here are some things you might not have considered.

The Best Treatment Centers Offer More Privacy

Privacy is one of the most sought after reasons for going to a luxury rehab facility. Often times, they are in secluded locations far away from any press or distractions.

While the patient’s privacy is respected, speaking with family members is also important. Family is affected by addiction just as much as the person going through it and it can be very helpful to have the family involved in the recovery process. This reduces the risk of relapse and enables lasting recovery.

Luxury Recovery Centers Are Usually Smaller in Size

When people are looking to continue their education, one of the first things they ask about is the size of the school. The number of people in each classroom matters, just like the number of patients in rehab facility.

Luxury rehabs tend to be on a smaller scale, affording room for more individual attention to each guest. Not only is there more one on one attention with doctors, therapists, and counselors, there is more room in the facility itself.

You don’t have to worry about sharing a bunk bed with another person in recovery and often, you don’t even have to share a room. The days of dormitory living are over and luxury rehabs ensure that they are over for good.

Holistic Addiction Treatment Programs Offered

Not many rehab centers are conducive to holistic treatment methods. Practices like acupuncture, massage, Reiki, and meditation are almost always unheard of in traditional centers. If you are seeking this kind of treatment method, you will certainly need to look for luxury rehab centers to fulfill this need.

Luxury Rehabs Can Observe Dietary Restrictions

Gourmet food is considered a high-end amenity, but something people don’t think about is dietary restrictions. Luxury rehabs usually have a chef onsite and they are able to prepare meals based on each resident’s needs.

Whether someone is vegan, requires a gluten free diet, or has religious restrictions on food, luxury centers will be able to accommodate their needs. Traditional recovery centers have very limited options when it comes to food and getting completely balanced meals might not happen if you have special dietary requirements.

Luxury centers typically will serve all organic meals using top of the line chefs to make every meal perfection. Rehab itself is going to require a lot of energy and thought, you might as well get some exquisite meals out of it in return!

What Makes a Treatment Center Good?

There are a lot of luxury and non-luxury treatment facilities out there, but they are not created equal. We compiled a list of some things you’ll want to look out for before admitting yourself to any rehab.

Individualized Treatments

Individualized Treatment is the essence of luxury rehab. The belief that each person has their own unique situation and that it should be treated that way is where these programs thrive.

Luxury Rehab centers focus on each attendee as an individual, paying attention to their unique personal needs. They utilize evidence based treatment practices, and these are carefully assessed upon each client’s situation which addresses how they came into this situation in the first place.

Essentially, there is no single sequence of treatments that is prescribed to each patient. One person’s recovery might involve spa treatment while another person’s requires Yoga, hence ‘Individualized Treatment.’

Good luxury rehabs know that not everyone will respond the same way to specific treatment methods so they figure out what treatments to use for the individual based on interests, personality, substance, and many other factors.

Treating the Whole, Not Just a Part

Most rehab centers base their treatment on a “Proven” 12 step program that works for everyone. That is not the case as many people relapse after going through such treatment. 12 Step Programs hone in on the concept of abstinence, but they often overlook the root cause of the addiction in the first place. This doesn’t even mention the fact that most 12 steps are free programs commonly found in the basement of churches…

Luxury rehabs feel a lot more put together and they provide evidence-based therapies such as EMDR, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Co-occurring Disorders

Addiction tends to take all of the blame, but more often than not, there is some other emotional issue or disorder feeding into the addiction. Any good addiction center is going to be able to treat the addiction as well as any underlying component.

For example, if someone comes to a center because of an addiction, but they are struggling with depression alongside it, the center needs to be able to treat both the addiction and the co-occurring disorder. A co-occurring disorder such as depression could be one of the causes of the addiction in the first place!

You might also hear centers refer to this as Dual Diagnosis. We really can’t stress the importance of this aspect enough. If things like mental health issues, PTSD, anxiety, or depression aren’t treated alongside the addiction, the individual seeking treatment is going to have a much higher probability of relapsing.

Where Can I Live?

Often the question is, “Do I have to stay on-site while receiving treatment?”

This may come as a surprise, but the answer is NO. There are two different types of luxury rehab centers; inpatient and outpatient. One requires staying on site, one does not, but there are pros and cons to each.

One of the main points of luxury rehab is the luxury, vacation-like feel. The centers themselves are often found in exotic places like the tropics, a beach paradise, or on a mountain with an amazingly serene view.

The facilities themselves are nothing less than stellar and each room is adorned with high-end furnishings and decor. Anything to make the patient feel like they are stepping into a place with comfort and beauty.

Corporate Executives

It may come as no surprise to you that people with high positions end up at facilities like this. While you are here, you can be sure that you are surrounded by professional people like corporate executives.

If you are running a multimillion dollar business, luxury centers will completely understand that certain needs must be met. In luxury centers, you will likely have access to your work emails and still be able to take important calls.

The luxury centers tend to work more around your schedule, rather than the other way around. In traditional rehab centers, communication with the clients can be limited by the specific routines that they enforce for the whole center.

Outpatient Clinics

Outpatient clinics are for professionals, celebrities, and other public eye figures who cannot or don’t want to stay on-site. They might have families to take care of, jobs they can’t leave, or they just really want a sense of privacy during their recovery journey.

Many of these clinics give their patients programs to complete at home or on the go. They are held accountable for these recovery assignments and regular checkups are scheduled to ensure the client is staying on course. Some luxury places cater to the patient and will actually travel to their home.

Outpatient services may sound convenient, but they are not for everyone. Some things to consider when doing outpatient treatment are:

  • Will you be motivated enough to do the treatment without supervision?
  • Does the clinic specialize in your area of treatment?

Often times, people struggling with addiction do not have the means of staying clean all on their own. Severe cases usually require inpatient services rather than outpatient as the freedom and temptation are too high for them to have a successful recovery living in their usual environment.

If the individual is really committed to recovery and feels like their addiction is too severe, we suggest staying away from outpatient services if possible.

The nice thing about outpatient luxury rehab clinics is that most clinics will provide extra care services to make sure the patients stay on track with their program. Typically, each patient has an individual program manager that best serves their needs by keeping in touch with them as well as providing guidance at all times when needed. These individualistic services are what make luxury rehab so desirable and often times, successful.

Inpatient Treatment Centers

Residential Inpatient treatment centers require patients to stay on-site. For luxury rehab centers, this can be an advantage due to the first class treatment often received. To some patients, it basically feels like going on vacation with a touch of work.

Length of Stay

Most facilities have a person stay a minimum of 4 weeks depending on the treatment administered and the progress made throughout their recovery, but there are different length of stays for treatment programs. The most common are:

  • 30 Day Programs
  • 60 Day Programs
  • 90 Day Programs

A lot of time people looking for luxury rehab centers are trying to find a quick 7 day detox. They think of it as a nice break from home where they come to enjoy the surroundings and then leave. But when we are making all of that effort to find a center with vacation-like amenities, is 7 days enough time?

I don’t know about you, but when I go on vacations, the last thing I want to do is leave. No one really wants to come here for that short of a time. If you’ve made the investment, you might as well get your money’s worth out of it!

30 Day Programs

The 30 day program is there for people who caught the addiction early on and don’t need the more intensive, 60 and 90 day programs. Many times people choose to use this option as an outpatient program, meaning that they check up a few times a week, but they do the prescribed treatment exercises as a part of their daily life.

Whether this is used as an inpatient or outpatient program, it is a good start, but if it turns out that the addiction was worse than expected, many times it is simple to continue on in the program or upgrade to a higher level of treatment.

Just because a program is advertised as 30 days does not mean that it will be consistent with other 30 day programs. Some things to look for in 30-Day Programs include:

  • Professional Staff – Many times rehab centers do not have people with medical licenses perform the 30-Day treatment. They might use interns or unqualified staff without licenses. In luxury rehab centers they should all be professionals in the field, experienced in addiction and mental health; otherwise, do not consider them luxury.
  • Treatment Options – As mentioned earlier, luxury rehab is typically individualized to the person’s needs. For that reason this is an easy indicator if a rehab center is in fact luxury. If they offer a generic 12 step program that they use on everybody, I recommend looking at other places. To really get the full benefits of recovery, they need to be looking into what works for each patient and uses that in their personal program.
  • Aftercare Programs – A 30 Day treatment is not always going to work right away. That is why looking at the aftercare program is very important. Luxury places should offer a great aftercare system that is specific to the need of the individual. Being able to receive extra treatment is important because a 30 day treatment might not necessarily get the results people want. This also insures that people do not relapse right after the 30 days are over.

60 Day Programs

The 60 day program consists of a more comprehensive treatment. The treatment is very hands on and involves a step by step process to make sure people do not relapse after the 60 days are over. This program is preferred to be done as an inpatient service, staying at the rehab center the entirety of the treatment.

This is when the extended vacation idea starts to come into play while receiving treatment. Luxury Rehab centers try to make the living conditions similar to those at home with a touch of a resort-like feel.

Most of the people doing this type of treatment program typically plan ahead of time and contact employers and family members well before starting the program to plan something out. It gives them time to arrange the off-time with work, find someone to watch over pets, and allows the family to know what is going on.

90 day programs are for people who need to leave their current state of life to find a new one. This is for the most severe cases and involves a person changing their way of life. At this point, people are looking for a way out and this is their best solution.

Many luxury rehab centers assign a program manager to each client in the program to again, provide individualism into the program. Just like the 60 day program, it is recommended to do this program inpatient, but there are certainly options to do them outpatient. With the individualistic approach of luxury rehab, both would work.

Be Aware of Specialization

It is important to select a clinic that specializes in the addiction treatment that the patient needs. You do not want professionals who are known to specialize in food addiction to treat drug addiction and vice versa. That would probably not result in a successful, long-term recovery. Also, luxury centers can have specialties based on gender such as men’s only facilities which could be a way of reducing distractions and placing more focus on recovery.

Usually treatment centers are geared more towards drug and alcohol addictions, but there are some out there who do specialize. Just be sure to ask the right questions and find out what the center is accustomed to working with and you’ll be able to tell right away if it will be a good fit.

Seeking Help

Seeking help is the hardest part in the recovery process. It is difficult to admit to having a problem. Once you or a loved one are committed to getting treatment, the first thing to do is to make sure to research multiple rehab centers and see which one will fit your needs best.

Remember, not all treatment centers are created equal, but they are all confidential. The only way word could get out is if the person in treatment openly speaks about it or leaves a review for the treatment center.

Choose Wisely

All in all, luxury rehab can be a great option for someone seeking addiction treatment, but there are things to consider before committed to a single center. Don’t be distracted by flashy signs and promises of bedroom suite.

Sometimes, treatment centers will use luxury items to lure clients into their program when the program itself is not very good. If you follow these guidelines, you will know what to look for in luxury treatment centers and will be that much closer to finding the perfect center for you or your loved one.
